I love music for a multitude of reasons. Sometimes I like to listen to music that will elevate my mood. I'll listen to country music because the lyrics often talk about a simple yet enjoyable life full of beer and ex-girlfriends/boyfriends. Sometimes I want to listen to music to be energized with adrenaline. The Grateful Dead and reggae as a genre do the trick too. For this category, I often listen to 90's rap and alternative rock. In particular, I love listening to Dr. Dre, Biggy, Wu-Tang-Clan, Gang Starr, LL Cool J for 90's rap and Red Hot Chili Peppers, Led Zeppelin, and Green Day. However, sometimes I want to listen to music that will lower my mood. If I'm having a down day sometimes it just can't be swayed and I have to give in. In these cases, it just feels right listening to music that's agreeable with your current mood. For this category, I like listening to Gorillaz, Wilco, Pearl Jam, and Eminem. I'll usually bring my air pods to school in case I need to find focus. Jazz music or Mozart is good music for me to listen to while I'm doing schoolwork. If I'm feeling tired during my shift washing dishes at Fort Washington Acts-Retirement Life Communities, I'll put my air pods in and listen to some Chili Peppers or 90's rap to feel the rush of adrenaline as the skin peels from my fingertips as I lift piping hot, heavy loads of plates, pots, and pans. I also love my music because of the social aspect of it. Playing your music for your friends and/or family lets them in on the lyrics that define all of your personalities.
I am a Catholic, but I haven't gone to Church in many years. I wouldn't be able to tell you about anyone in the Bible! However, after some research, I notice many similarities between Isak in Pachinko and Isaac in the Bible. I chose to examine Isak's similarities to Isaac because I admire Isak for his refusal to conform to societal expectations. In the Old Testament of the Bible, Isaac is the only son of Abraham. Abraham nearly sacrificed his only son due to God's command. In Lee's Pachinko , Isak is not sacrificed against his will, but sacrifices himself for what he believes is right. He sacrifices his honor by marrying Sunja, a woman pregnant outside of wedlock. He also sacrifices himself for his religion when he chooses not to recant his Christian religion in favor of the dominant Shinto religion.
